Today, November 13th is the reveal of my Splendid Block! Woohoo! It has certainly been a long wait but it is finally here!! My block is called Inspirational Threads. So many people have inspired me on my journey in quilting and this was a way of honoring all of them. I have had such a fun time with this Splendid Journey. My sewing/quilting journey began a long time ago. I have only been quilting for 15 years, but I have been sewing for over 40 years. My very first sewing machine was purchased with my hard earned paper route money. It was a Singer and it weighed about 100 pounds, at least that is what if felt like when I lugged it home as a 10 year old. It didn't get any lighter as I moved it from one home to another! I eventually sold it and got a machine with a lot more bells and whistles and it weighed a lot less. What was your first sewing machine and how old were you when you got it??? This is it!!! I just love the aqua colors with the grey spool! Some of you may not like to paper piece all the "threads". You can use a striped fabric set on the diagonal to give you a similar effect. Stripes and dots, how can you go wrong? Because I love smaller size quilts I just had to make this block in a 3" size and I couldn't stop with just making a block. I had to make a miniature quilt to go with the block. This is my "Mini Spools" quilt. The quilt is 19" x 19". It is a great way to use up the tiniest scraps that you have remaining from your Splendid Blocks. If you are interested in more information on how to make this mini quilt CLICK HERE
I hope that you are enjoying your Splendid Journey! Don't forget to leave me a comment telling me what your first sewing machine was and how old were you when you got it!! It's has been great getting to know you all!

AuthorHi Everyone! My name is Melanie Barrett and I have been quilting for 15 short years now. I worked in a quilt shop for 7 of those years and I owned a quilt shop for the other 8. Recently I decided to close the brick and mortar store and concentrate on online sales. My favorite types of quilts to make are small and mini size. I don't have a favorite fabric style, I like them all. I find that my tastes change as I grow up! Splendid!Archives
