Meet the Owner

Melanie Barrett
Hi! I am Melanie and I have been quilting since 2000. I fell into quilting a little later in life, but I have been sewing since I was a small girl. In high school a couple of my friends took a class in which they were making a quilt. It looked like such fun, but I was on the College Prep track (no fun classes for me!). I graduated high school and went on to college and received a BA in Actuarial Sciences. Soon after college, I got married and had two children. I loved sewing halloween costumes for them, but that was about all the sewing for which I had time.
Then we made a move to Houston, Texas and a new quilt shop was opening about 2 miles from my house. I was intrigued! I remembered my friends from high school that had so much fun when they were making their quilts and I decided now was the time for me to finally make one of my own! I went in and signed up for a Bargello class and I haven't stopped making quilts since then. I went on to work at that quilt shop and when my family moved again, I worked at a quilt shop in that town until I decided to open a quilt shop of my own. I had the brick and mortar shop for 8 years and I decided to branch out in a different direction. I am not sure where this new path will lead, but I am enjoying the journey!
I love to work on all types of quilts, but I have a special love of small quilts! My taste of fabric is all over the place, but I tend to gravitate toward the reproduction fabrics.
